Abstract:

This course provides the student with the fundamental concepts of descriptive statistics. It is intended to give the student knowledge of statistics by providing hands-on examples to illustrate the theory. The use of these powerful tools will increase productivity and quality at a lower cost.  

This course is for everyone desiring to know the fundamentals of statistics. It unveils the mystery and provides the logic behind statistical methodology.

Varied classroom techniques include lecture, individual participation, group problem discussion, case studies, and quizzes to test understanding.  Please bring a calculator.

 

Course content:

  • Introduction - management concepts, quality terms/definitions, quality history, and quality personalities
  • Math Review - fundamentals of algebra
  • Develop and Organize Statistical Data - classification of statistical data, ungrouped and grouped data, frequency distribution table
  • Frequency Distribution - histogram, frequency polygon, frequency bar chart
  • Measures of Central Tendency - mean, median, mode
  • Measures of Dispersion/Variability - range, arithmetic mean deviation, standard deviation
  • Normal Curve/Distribution - area under the curve
  • Control Charting - variable data (X & R) - attribute data (p, np, c, u)w
  • Concept of Cp and Cpk
  • Management Tools - flow chart, check sheet, Pareto principle, cause and effect diagram

Who should attend:
Everyone interested in applying statistics to their work for determining process capability and improving productivity.

Also, for people planning to take a ASQ exam where an understanding of basic statistics is required; i.e. CSSBB, CQE, CMQ/OE, and CQT.

Prerequisites:
Helpful if student had an Algebra course in high school.

Notes:

 

1. A 10 % discount will be applied to the purchase of 3 or more registrations either on-line or via invoice.
